Friend-link believes that
All people need acceptance, affection and a sense of belonging.
All people need others in their lives to ensure that their interests are understood and effectively responded to.
All people have the right to take part in activities of choice in their communities.

What does Friend-Link do?
Friend-Link supports people with intellectual disabilities to make friends and participate more fully in community life. It does this by
- Working with people to help identify social and recreational needs and interests
- Finding suitable people (link-friends) who enjoy new friends and new experiences
- Finding appropriate community groups to share resources with a new member
- Matching and linking people with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one friendships or to community groups
- Providing support as linked people and groups get to know one another

Why is Friend-Link needed?
For some people with intellectual disability it can be difficult to make and maintain friends.
This may be because of
- Community attitudes towards disability
- few opportunities for meeting people
- physical barriers, such as access and transport

Who are link-friends?
Link friends come from all walks of life, are of all ages and each
brings a range of life experiences and skills.
Many have no previous involvement with people with disabilities. But all believe in the rights of everyone to be shown dignity and respect.
Link friends are people who enjoy getting to know someone new and will take pleasure in developing a reciprocal friendship.
